Amy Winehouse’s Parents ‘Devastated’ By Loss Visit Her House, Thanks Fans [PHOTOS]

Amy Winehouse‘s father Mitch and mother Janis visited her home on Monday morning and thanked her fans for their support. Her family released a statement expressing their grief at the loss of the 27-year-old, who was found dead in her north London home on Saturday afternoon.

Surrounded by television crews and well-wishers, he read the dozens of condolence messages and walked along banks of teddy bears, flowers — and the occasional bottle of vodka — left by fans of the 27-year-old singer.

“Thank you for coming,” he told the fans. “It means so much to me and my family.”

Amy’s mother Janis met up with her just 24 hours before her death. “She seemed out of it. But her passing so suddenly still hasn’t hit me,” Janis Winehouse tells the Sunday Mirror. “I’m glad I saw her when I did.”

According to Chris Goodman, a friend and rep for Winehouse, the “Valerie” singer’s body was discovered Saturday by a security guard who had been appointed to look after her.

More on the story…

“She was in her bedroom after saying she wanted to sleep, and when he went to wake her he found she wasn’t breathing,” Goodman tells TMZ. “He called the emergency services straight away. He was very shocked. At this stage no one knows how she died. She died alone in bed.”

The post-mortem examination into the cause of her death has been scheduled for Monday afternoon.
